HOW TO EXPLORE LONDON WITH A CAMPERVAN

Hi Campers!

I know what you're thinking, London and a campervan don't really go together but it CAN be done. Whether you're wanting to travel around the whole of the UK or trying to save some money on pricey hotels, here's how you can explore a vibrant city with a campervan.

WHERE TO STAY

One of the most common campsites where people stay with their campers, caravans or tents is:
Lee Valley Caravan Park Dobb Weir
It has all the usual facilities and is only a 30 minute train journey into the centre of London. This means you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city by day and then relax in the quiet outskirts of London in the evenings - you get the best of both worlds!

Another great favourite is Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site. It's only 35 minutes from the centre and if you fancy travelling via the Thames, it's close to one of the boat locations. Again it has all the usual facilities with beautiful views which is always a bonus especially when you've spent all day surrounded only by buildings.

PARKING

If you're only visiting London for the day be prepared for a lot of traffic especially during rush hour. There are places to park in central London but they can get very expensive and you need to be careful of congestion charges. Our top tip is to use the Park & Ride which lets you choose which location or tube station you would like to park near and then they calculate everything.

CONGESTION ZONES

You might of heard of congestion charges and low emission zones which are nothing to worry about if you plan ahead. Use this helpful website to plan your route and avoid any unnecessary charges - https://tfl.gov.uk

TRAVELLING AROUND

The quickest way to get around the city is obviously the underground train station - you can pay as you go or get day tickets, it just depends on where you want to visit.

If you have a bit of time, then hiring a bike can be a fun and healthy way to explore London. The most popular company is Santander Cycles which offers your first half an hour for free and there are over 750 docking stations around the city meaning you can hop on and off at different locations.

THINGS TO DO

If you've been looking to visit London then you've probably already read about the famous London Eye, Big Ben & Madame Tussauds. But if you want to see more of London then why not experience holding a real bar of gold at the Bank of England Museum or sit among over 320 free-roaming deer at Bushy Park? There are so many things to do and see without breaking the bank!

Have you added London as a destination to your campervan or camping holiday?
